Ljubljana a trip that changed me forever

This story is part of the trip that I made in the Balkan region in 2014 that I was lucky enough to meet and it was a trip that changed me forever.

… When I arrived in Villach (Austria) at 05.00 am in February, a cold that reached my bones, I waited for the train that was going to take me to Ljubljana, which was the first stop of my trip. It travels, most of the capitals of the region, Ljubljana, Zagreb and ends in Beograd.

Arriving in Ljubljana, I left the station looking for a taxi, I arrived at the Hotel Park (Tabor 9), the hotel is very well located and it is very nice 3 min from the Ljubljanica river, I started walking towards the river with my map, it is very magical to see the castle of Ljubljana rising on a small massif in the middle of the city while you walk through the streets, the city is a small but very beautiful and very striking city.

To climb the castle you have to take a funicular, it is a meeting point for the people of the city, it has incredible views of the city, it has bars and souvenir shops.

At the foot of the massif is the Cathédral of San Nicolas, after seeing the cathedral on the outside as it was closed, I went to an emblematic place in the city, Trosmostovje which is a group of 3 bridges that cross the Ljubljanica river that connect the medieval part with part of the modern city. Crossing the bridge is the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation.

After crossing the three bridges, take the Copova Ulica which is a street that has several shops and stoppings, pass by a house of chocolates well known in the Balkans and highly recommended, Kras Bonbonnière.

It was already 6:00 pm, I decided to return to the hotel, take a bath and change, since I had been recommended some bars on the Ljubljanica river and I wanted to meet them, I took the two most important local beers Lasko and Union, I stayed a while and then I went back to the hotel because the next day I got up early to go by train to Zagreb.

Ljubljana was the first city I visited in the region, I loved it, its Austro-Hungarian past, its castle, its river, its small streets, makes this city a wonderful place and without doubts highly recommended
